England, London – a lovely few days to end a great trip

A cup of tea while we wait for the taxi.

After a little over 6 weeks away we are on our last day. An awesome trip that has saw us start in Tel Aviv, take a raucous Saturday afternoon flight to Rome, spend a week in Assisi, take the bus and train to Lecce, then head back to Rome for a delightful weekend before we discovered the delights of Portugal and then to London.

London is a convenient exit point for Adelaide and after a few days here that included a visit to The Emirates to see Arsenal’s first home game of the season, it’s time to head home.

We stayed in Farringdon. It’s more business and locals than tourists, meaning most sites are a tube ride away. But with an Oyster Card purchased from the local Off Licence (I love that term), getting to where we want to go is pretty straight forward.

After 6 weeks of travel we had low key plans for our time here, except for my first visit to The Emirates.

My favourite person is a sucker for a library

A character laden hotel – The Rookery has it’s own cat and a huge amount of charm.

A local pub – The Hope filled that bill.

A curry – Cafe Tiffin hit the spot.

Some shopping – It’s London so that’s easy

The courgettes we’re better than the ones we made at home!

A nice meal – Nopi, an Ottolenghi restaurant. His books have been a huge it in Australia.

The football – a chance to see Arsenal play and win.

… and a time to wind down – that’s what the pub was for and we definitely took advantage of that!

With 6 weeks travel and so many memories floating about in our head, we just soaked up our few days in London before boarding the plane for home.

I’ve finally finished catching up! Your whole trip sounds amazing, and the photos which accompany every post really bring out the beauty and history of the places you visited. Well, except for the Emirates, that is 😉

It was a great trip and thanks for visiting each and every post.
Emirates was a highlight, not just because I am an Arsenal supporter but because it was a chance to see soccer played at a level I’d never seen before. While we have our own league and I quite enjoy it, the standard isn’t in the same class.

I always intended to, it just took me a while to get there! We get the A-League on tv here too, and it isn’t a bad standard. I’ve seen several ex-Leyton Orient players there, one of my ‘other’ teams, and that is always fun. I grew up on non-league/lower league football as well as Spurs and I think all levels have their own merits.
